Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 4 large potatoes (peeled and cut into chips)
  • Salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, beer, baking powder, and salt until smooth. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

  2. In a large pan, heat vegetable oil for frying to 180°C (350°F).

  3. Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place it into the hot oil. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with remaining fillets.

  4. While the fish is frying, cook the chips in a separate pan of hot vegetable oil until golden and crispy. Remove and sprinkle with salt.
