Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 pack of firm tofu
- 1/2 cup of cornstarch
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup of dashi stock
- 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of mirin
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of grated daikon radish
- 1 tablespoon of chopped green onion
- 1/4 teaspoon of grated ginger
Instructions
-
Drain the tofu and cut it into 8 equal-sized cubes.
-
Prepare a bowl of cold water and gently place the tofu cubes in it. Let them sit for 5 minutes to remove excess moisture.
-
Pat the tofu cubes dry with a paper towel and coat them with cornstarch.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F/180°C), carefully add the tofu cubes and fry until golden brown and crispy.
-
Remove the tofu cubes from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
-
In a separate saucepan, combine dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a gentle boil and then reduce the heat.
-
Place the fried tofu cubes in individual serving bowls and pour the sauce over them.
-
Garnish with grated daikon radish, chopped green onion, and grated ginger.
-
Serve the agedashi tofu hot as an appetizer.
