How To Make Japanese Beef Skewers (Yakitori)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup mirin
  • 1/4 cup sake
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 4-6 wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill to medium high heat.

  2. Thread beef onto skewers.

  3. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. Brush sauce onto beef skewers and grill for 5-7 minutes on each side, until cooked to desired doneness.

  5. Serve with extra sauce on the side.
