This cornbread loaf made up of cornmeal is a hearty and filling dish that is good on its own and also perfect for pairing with your favorite soup or stew.

  • 2cupscornmeal
  • 2cupsbuttermilk
  • 1cupall-purpose flour
  • 1cupwhite sugar
  • 3tbspvegetable oil
  • 1tspsalt
  • 1tspbakind soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 5×9-inch loaf pan.

  2. Mix cornmeal, buttermilk, flour, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, and baking soda in a bowl until thoroughly combined.

  3. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour. The top should be golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf should come out clean or with moist crumbs.
