This cornbread loaf made up of cornmeal is a hearty and filling dish that is good on its own and also perfect for pairing with your favorite soup or stew.

- 2cupsbuttermilk
- 1cupall-purpose flour
- 1cupwhite sugar
- 3tbspvegetable oil
- 1tspsalt
- 1tspbakind soda

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 5×9-inch loaf pan.

Mix cornmeal, buttermilk, flour, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, and baking soda in a bowl until thoroughly combined.

Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour. The top should be golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf should come out clean or with moist crumbs.
