How To Make Vaca Frita (Pan-Fried Beef)
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef flank steak
- 1/4 cup sour orange juice
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions
-
Place the beef flank steak in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour until the beef is tender.
-
Remove the beef from the pot and let it cool slightly. Shred the beef using two forks, pulling apart into bite-sized pieces.
-
In a bowl, combine sour orange juice, minced garlic, salt, cumin, and black pepper. Pour the marinade over the shredded beef and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until softened and caramelized.
-
Add the marinated shredded beef to the skillet and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crispy and browned.
-
Sprinkle chopped cilantro over the beef and toss to combine. Serve the Vaca Frita with lime wedges on the side.
