Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 35 minutes
Total: 55 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast.

  2. In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.

  3. Add the milk mixture, egg, warm water, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until a soft dough forms.

  4. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a baking dish.

  7. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12×9-inch rectangle.

  8. Spread softened butter over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  9. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

  10. Starting from one long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.

  11. Place the rolls in the greased baking dish, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for another 15 minutes.

  12. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  13. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.

  14. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls.

  15. Serve and enjoy!
