Total: 55 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 10g salt
  • 20g sugar
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 300ml milk
  • 50g butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.

  2. Warm the milk slightly and pour it gradually into the bowl, stirring well.

  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  6. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts and roll each part into a long rope.

  7. Start braiding the ropes together, tucking the ends neatly.

  8. Place the braided bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  9. Brush the bread with the beaten egg, ensuring it is well coated.

  10. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  11. Remove from the oven and let the Zopf cool on a wire rack before serving.
