Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 25 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 eggs, divided
  • Assorted food coloring
  • Sprinkles or colored sugar for decoration

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and 1 egg.

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  5. Divide the dough into three equal portions.

  6. Use food coloring to dye each portion of dough in different pastel colors.

  7. Roll each portion into a long rope.

  8. Place the ropes side-by-side and pinch them together at one end.

  9. Braid the ropes together, pinching the ends together when finished.

  10. Carefully transfer the braided bread onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  11. Create a well in the center of the braid and gently place a dyed hard-boiled egg into the well.

  12. Repeat with the remaining two eggs and ropes of dough.

  13. Cover the braided bread with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes.

  14. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  15. Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the bread.

  16. Decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar.

  17. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.

  18. Allow the bread to cool before serving.
