How To Make Orecchiette with Brussels Sprouts

Cook an easy one-pot dish with this orecchiette pasta made with Brussels sprouts and crispy bacon. It’s cooked in a creamy sauce with cheese and lemon zest.

  • 8ozorecchiette pasta
  • 8ozBrussels sprouts
  • 4slicesbacon,chopped
  • 2clovesgarlic,minced
  • ¼tspred pepper flakes
  • ¼cupwhite wine
  • ¼cupchicken stock
  • ½tsplemon zest
  • cupheavy cream
  • ¼cupParmesan cheese,grated
  • parsley,for garnish, optional
  • ½lemon,optional


  1. Cook pasta al dente according to package directions. Drain while reserving 1 cup of pasta water.

  2. With a sharp knife or mandoline, slice Brussels sprouts very thinly.

  3. Cook bacon over medium heat until browned and crisp. Remove from pan and set aside reserving drippings.

  4. Add garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook just for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. Stir in white wine and chicken stock. Simmer for about 5 minutes until reduced by half.

  6. Stir in lemon zest and heavy cream. Simmer for 5 additional minutes.

  7. Add brussels sprouts and 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese and cook for 2 minutes.

  8. Add pasta and heat through (add pasta water if needed).

  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Then, sprinkle with bacon, Parmesan, and squeeze half a lemon over the top (optional). Serve immediately.
