Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  3. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.

  4. Leave the bacon grease in the skillet and add the butter. Melt the butter over medium heat.

  5. Whisk in the flour until smooth and cook for 1-2 minutes.

  6. Gradually whisk in the whole milk and cook until thickened, stirring constantly.

  7. Add the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until the cheese is melted and smooth.

  8. Add the cooked macaroni and crispy bacon to the skillet. Stir to combine.

  9. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.

  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

  11. Allow the mac and cheese to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
