  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into rounds
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil, for garnish


  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the sweet potato slices on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until slightly tender.

  2. In a bowl, combine the ground sausage, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.

  3. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes until fully cooked and golden brown.

  4. In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat until warmed through.

  5. Place the baked sweet potato rounds in a baking dish and top each round with a meatball. Spoon marinara sauce over each meatball and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.

  6. Bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  7. Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.
