Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans, blanched and sliced into 2-inch long strips
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup chicken stock, or water
  • 3 bacon slices , roughly 3 oz, chopped
  • 1 cup red onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • salt and ground black pepper , to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a medium skillet with oil over medium-high heat, and stir occasionally until well-browned.

  2. Add onion and saute until translucent.

  3. Add the flour and roast briefly.

  4. Deglaze with vinegar and reduce briefly.

  5. Add water or chicken broth and sugar. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and stir in the green beans.

  6. Continue cooking at a low simmer until beans are hot.

  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust accordingly and serve!
