How To Make Oyakodon
Oyakodon is a delicious Japanese dish made with chicken, onions, and eggs, served over a bed of steamed rice.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 cups cooked rice
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 eggs
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 sheet of nori, cut into thin strips (optional)
Instructions

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add chicken and cook until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the onion and cook until softened.

In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, and chicken broth. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the onions.

Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and simmer for 5 minutes.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Pour the eggs over the chicken and onion mixture in the skillet. Cook until the eggs are set.

To serve, place a scoop of rice in each bowl and top with the chicken, egg, and onion mixture from the skillet. Garnish with green onions and nori strips, if desired.
