Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add the cold butter to the bowl and use your fingers to rub it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in the milk, lemon zest, and lemon juice until just combined.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.

  6. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick round and cut out scones using a round biscuit cutter.

  7. Place the scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.

  9. While the scones are cooling, prepare the lemon drizzle by whisking together 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice until smooth.

  10. Drizzle the lemon glaze over the cooled scones.
