How To Make Homemade Custard
Creamy and delicious homemade custard that is perfect for satisfying your dessert cravings.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Fresh berries for garnish (optional)
Instructions
-
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam. Do not let it boil.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
-
Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly until smooth.
-
Return the custard mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This will take about 10-15 minutes.
-
Remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to serving dishes.
-
Cover the custard with plastic wrap, making sure the wrap touches the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until chilled and set.
-
Serve the homemade custard chilled, garnished with fresh berries if desired.
