How To Make Enchilada Sauce
A spicy and flavorful sauce made with various spices and tomatoes, perfect for enchiladas.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
Instructions

Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.

Add the tomato sauce, broth, and sugar (if using) to the saucepan. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly. Use an immersion blender or transfer the sauce to a blender, and blend until smooth.

Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.
