How To Make Baked Ziti

Baked Ziti is a classic Italian-American pasta dish that’s perfect for a crowd or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ziti pasta
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. black pepper
  • 8 oz. ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente.

  3. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  4. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  6. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cooked ziti, tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.

  7. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish and sprinkle remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

  9. Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese.
