Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Filling of your choice (e.g. BBQ pork, chicken, vegetables)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and sugar. Mix well.

  2. Add the warm milk and vegetable oil to the bowl. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Punch down the dough and knead in the baking powder and salt.

  6. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into circles with a diameter of about 3 inches.

  7. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle and pleat the edges to seal.

  8. Place the buns on a piece of parchment paper and let them rest for 10 minutes.

  9. Set up a steamer and steam the buns for 15-20 minutes, until puffed and cooked through.

  10. Serve the steamed bao buns hot and enjoy!
