Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. In the meantime, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and sauté until translucent.

  5. Add ground pork and cook until browned. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and chicken broth. Simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in green onions and season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside to cool.

  6. Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and divide into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten into a disc.

  7. Place a tablespoon of the pork filling in the center of each disc. Gather the edges together and pinch to seal, forming a bun shape. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.

  8. Place the buns on individual parchment paper squares and place in a steamer basket. Steam for 15-20 minutes or until the buns are puffed and cooked through.

  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
