Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.

  2. In a saucepan, warm the milk and 1/4 cup of butter until it reaches 110°F (43°C).

  3. Add the milk mixture and the egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle that is about 1/4 inch thick.

  7. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the dough.

  8. Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll up the dough into a log.

  9. Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices and place them in a greased baking dish.

  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  11. Pour the melted butter over the buns and sprinkle with nuts, if desired.

  12. Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown and sticky.

  13. Allow the buns to cool for a few minutes before serving.
