Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 egg
- 1 cup raisins
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
-
In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm. Remove from heat and stir in the melted butter.
-
Pour the warm water into a small bowl and sprinkle the yeast over it. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
-
Add the milk mixture, yeast mixture, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
-
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins.
-
Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
-
Cover the pan with a towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
