  • ½cupsugar,plus an additional 1 tbsp, divided
  • ½cupbutter,melted but not hotter than 115 degrees F
  • ½cuporange juice
  • 3eggs,beaten
  • 1orange,zested

  • ¼cupsugar
  • 2tspcinnamon

For Glaze:

  • ½cupheavy whipping cream
  • 4tbspbutter
  • 1tbsporange juice,fresh
  • 1tspvanilla
  • 3cupspowdered sugar,sifted
  • ½orange,zested

Instructions

Dough:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the yeast with 1 tablespoon of sugar and water. Let it begin to foam.

  2. Add the orange juice and melted butter. Whisk in the ½ cup of sugar, beaten eggs, and orange zest. Add 2 cups of flour and salt, and mix well.

  3. Switch to using a wooden spoon, then add 2¼ cups of flour, stirring until completely mixed. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula as needed.

  4. Once mixed, cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap, and let it rise for about 2 hours, until it doubles in bulk.

Rolling the Dough:

  1. Grease 1 large baking sheet (17×10-inch) and set aside.

  2. Punch the dough down. Use the remaining ¼ cup of flour to roll the dough out. Dust the work surface with flour.

  3. Place dough on the floured surface and dust the dough enough. Roll into a rectangle about ⅓-inch thick, making sure there’s still have enough flour underneath while rolling the dough out.

  4. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl. Brush the dough with the melted butter, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

  5. Roll the dough from long end to long end. With the seam side down, cut the dough using a double piece of colored thread.

  6. Place the thread under the dough, bringing both ends to the top, cross, and pull to cut.

  7. Place on a greased cookie sheet (12 per sheet), then allow to rise for 2 hours.

  8. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F with the rack in the middle of the oven.

  9. Bake one pan at a time for 10 minutes, until lightly browned. If the oven doesn’t heat evenly, gently rotate the pan halfway through.

Glaze:

  1. Heat the cream and butter together in the microwave for about about 30 to 40 seconds, until the butter is almost melted.

  2. Beat in the orange juice, vanilla, and powdered sugar until smooth.

  3. Mix in the orange zest, then pour over the warm rolls. Serve warm, and enjoy!
