Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 45 minutes
Total: 1 hour

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 1/4 cups hot water
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine oats and hot water. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

  2. Add yeast, honey, vegetable oil, and salt to the oat mixture. Stir well.

  3. Gradually add the bread flour and whole wheat flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place in a greased bread pan, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  7. Remove from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
