Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and yeast.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the warm milk, warm water, melted butter, salt, and beaten egg.

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.

  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round bun shape.

  8. Place the buns on a greased baking sheet, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 15 minutes.

  9. Brush the tops of the buns with water and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.

  10. Bake the buns for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  11. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
