Chai-Spiced Banana Bread Recipe

How To Make Chai-Spiced Banana Bread

Classic banana bread is flavored with fragrant and warm spices for a delightful twist! It’s made with ripe bananas and sour cream.

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 1 hour 10 minutes
Total: 1 hour 30 minutes



  • ½cupunsalted butter,(1 stick) at room temperature
  • 1cupgranulated sugar
  • 2large eggs,at room temperature
  • cupsall purpose flour,spooned into measuring cup and leveled off with a knife
  • 1tspbaking soda
  • ¾tspground cardamom
  • ¾tspcinnamon
  • ¼tspground ginger
  • ¼tspallspice
  • ¾tspsalt
  • 1cupvery ripe bananas,(about 3 bananas) mashed
  • ½cupsour cream
  • 1tspvanilla
  • ½cupwalnuts,chopped, optional


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl or electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar for about 2 minutes until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs 1 at a time, incorporating well after each addition. Scrape down sides of bowl as necessary.

  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and salt. Add to the butter mixture and beat gently until just combined.

  4. Add bananas, sour cream, and vanilla and mix on low speed until just combined. Gently stir in nuts if using.

  5. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 60 to 70 minutes until deep golden brown and cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Let rest in pan for about 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to cool completely.

  6. Serve warm and enjoy.
