Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Coarse sea salt, for topping
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 2 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.

  2. Add the warm water and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope, about 18 inches long.

  7. Shape each rope into a pretzel shape and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

  8. In a large pot, bring 2 cups of hot water and baking soda to a boil. Drop each pretzel into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place them back on the baking sheet.

  9. Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse sea salt.

  10. Bake the pretzels for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.

  11. Remove from the oven and brush the pretzels with melted butter.

  12. Serve warm and enjoy!
