Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion flakes, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the warm water and mix until a smooth dough forms.

  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes elastic.

  3. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it slightly to form a bagel shape.

  4. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Drop the bagels into the boiling water, 2 at a time, and boil for 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Brush the tops of the boiled bagels with beaten egg and sprinkle with desired toppings.

  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
