How To Make Pesto Pasta Salad

  • 8 oz penne pasta
  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish


  1. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a food processor, combine the basil leaves, grated Parmesan cheese, pine nuts, and garlic cloves. Process until finely chopped.

  3. With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until a smooth pesto sauce forms. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked penne pasta with the cherry tomatoes, black olives, red onion, and chopped parsley.

  5. Pour the pesto sauce over the pasta mixture and toss until well coated.

  6. Serve the pesto pasta salad chilled or at room temperature, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
