How To Make Spicy Sweet Potato Hummus

The texture upon adding chickpeas in this sweet potato hummus becomes a smooth treat with a distinctly earthy and slightly sweet flavor countered by pepper.

  • 2sweet potatoes,medium
  • 3tbspolive oil
  • 2cupscooked chickpeas,(or one can of chickpeas), rinsed and drained
  • 3tbsptahini
  • 3clovesgarlic,peeled
  • 1lemon,juiced
  • ½lemon,zest
  • ground sea salt,to taste
  • tspcayenne pepper,start with less, season to taste
  • ½tspsmoked paprika
  • ¼tspcumin


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Bake the sweet potatoes on the middle oven rack or in a baking dish for 45 minutes to an hour.

  3. While the sweet potatoes are cooling, toss all of the other ingredients into a food processor.

  4. Once the sweet potatoes have cooled enough to handle, use a knife to peel the skin off of them.

  5. Add the sweet potatoes to the food processor.

  6. Blend well and serve!
