Ingredients

  • 4 green tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup dried currants
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the green tomatoes, raisins, dried currants, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, water, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.

  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the tomatoes are soft and broken down, about 1 hour.

  3. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped walnuts.

  4. Allow the mincemeat to cool completely before transferring it to jars or containers for storage.

  5. Serve as a filling for pies, tarts, or as a topping for ice cream.
