How To Make Quick Hearty Enchilada Sauce

Create your own enchilada sauce from scratch with broth, tomato sauce, and lots of chilis. This quick and easy sauce has a smooth texture and a spicy kick!

Ingredients

  • ½tspolive oil
  • 4garlic cloves,minced
  • cupsreduced sodium chicken or vegetable broth
  • 3cupstomato sauce,canned
  • 2tbspchipotle chilis in adobo sauce,chopped to taste
  • 1tspmexican hot chili powder,or more to taste
  • 1tspground cumin
  • ½tspkosher salt
  • fresh black pepper,to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a saucepan over medium heat, add the oil and garlic; sauté for about 1 minute until golden.

  2. Add the chicken broth, tomato sauce, chipotle chiles, hot chili powder, cumin, and salt and pepper, to taste. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered for about 7 to 10 minutes.

  3. Set aside until ready to use.
