Ingredients

  • ½ lb Italian sausages, or Kielbasa, or Hungarian sausages, removed from its casing
  • 16 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated
  • ½ cup manchego cheese, or asiago, monterey jack, or cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 cup marinara sauce, or your favorite tomato-based pasta sauce
  • tbsp olive oil
  • cooking spray

To serve:

  • 5 oz sourdough slices, or baguette slices, toasted
  • ½ tsp basil leaves, torn

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, ½ of cheese, garlic salt, and basil. Whip until evenly incorporated then set aside.
  3. Form roughly 2 ounces of meatballs from the sausage mince, using either your hands or any tools of your choice.
  4. Chill for at least 30 minutes to firm up the meatballs.
  5. Heat up a skillet with oil. Add the meatballs and saute until meatballs are fully cooked.
  6. Turn the meatballs as they caramelize. Drain off any excess fat once cooked.
  7. Assemble your dip either in a skillet or baking casserole of your choice. Spread your cream cheese mixture on the bottom. Then, place your meatballs on top, inches apart from each other.
  8. Cover the meatballs with your pasta sauce. Lastly, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  9. Transfer to the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Once bubbly, set the oven to broil and broil the crust for roughly 5 minutes until golden.
  10. Garnish with basil and serve together with bread slices.
