  • 8 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they are soft and fragrant.

  2. Add the chopped tomatoes, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes have broken down and the sauce has thickened.

  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the marinara sauce cool slightly.

  5. Using an immersion blender or a regular blender, puree the sauce until it reaches the desired consistency.

  6. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.

  7. Serve the fresh tomato marinara sauce over your favorite pasta or use it as a sauce for pizza, lasagna, or meatballs.
