How To Make Chocolate Syrup

Rich, silky, and luscious, this chocolate syrup needs only five ingredients and is the perfect topping for ice cream, cookies, cakes, and brownies.

  • 1cupsugar
  • ½cupunsweetened cocoa
  • ½cupcold water
  • 1tbspbutter
  • 2tspvanilla


  1. Whisk together the sugar and cocoa in a medium pot until all lumps are gone.

  2. Add water and butter and turn to medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Bring to simmer, stirring constantly for about 1 minute.

  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla once the mixture is cooled. Stir until combined and place in a glass jar and refrigerate. Reheat when read to serve.
