  • 400g white fish fillets
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 red chilies, sliced
  • 4 cups fish or vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, ginger, and red chilies. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

  2. Add the fish fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes until lightly browned. Break the fish into chunks with a spoon.

  3. Pour in the fish or vegetable broth, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  4. Add the sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, and bean sprouts. Cook for another 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Serve the hot and sour fish soup garnished with sliced green onions.
