Ingredients

  • 1 lb prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until the onions become translucent.

  2. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously to release the flavors.

  3. Add the prawns to the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes until they start to turn pink.

  4. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  5. Stir in the coconut milk and season with salt to taste. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  6. Serve the spicy prawn soup hot, garnished with fresh cilantro and accompanied by lime wedges.
