Ingredients

  • 1 lb hamburger
  • cups tomato juice
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup lentils, washed
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup cabbage, diced
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • ½ cup onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp green pepper, or green pepper flakes - optional
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Brown hamburger until crumbly.

  2. Drain.

  3. Bring tomato juice and water to a boil.

  4. Add the rest of the ingredients.

  5. Bring back to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 1½ hours.

  6. Serve when ready.
