How To Make Easy Ham Bean Soup

  • 2tbspolive oil
  • 1onion,diced
  • 1large carrot,peeled and diced
  • ½cupcelery,finely chopped
  • 4garlic cloves,minced
  • 2cupsham,cooked, shredded
  • 6cupschicken stock,or broth
  • 2bay leaves,or 1 tbsp fresh chopped thyme
  • 3tbspfresh flat-leaf parsley,chopped
  • 15ozwhite beans,rinsed and drained
  • ½tspblack pepper
  • pinchsalt,if needed


  1. In a large pot or saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the onion, carrots and celery.

  3. Cook for 5 minutes until the onions are softened.

  4. Sauté the garlic for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. Add the ham, cook for a further 2 minutes, then pour in the stock.

  6. Add the bay leaves and parsley.

  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

  8. Stir in the beans, then season with pepper.

  9. Let simmer for 2 minutes, then season with salt, if needed.

  10. Serve warm, and enjoy!
