Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of Japanese short-grain rice
- 4 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 bunch of Japanese greens (such as bok choy or komatsuna), chopped
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
Instructions
-
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
-
In a medium-sized pot, combine the rinsed rice and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
-
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Cook for 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
-
While the rice is cooking, prepare the saucy Japanese greens. In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
-
Add the chopped Japanese greens to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, cornstarch, and water until smooth. Pour the mixture over the cooked greens and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
-
Once the rice is cooked, remove it from the heat. Let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
-
Fluff the rice with a fork and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
-
Serve the saucy Japanese greens over the sticky sesame rice and enjoy!
