How To Make Rotis (chapatis)

Who says vegetarians don’t get to enjoy savory meals? A taste of these authentic vegetarian recipes will make you change your mind. So, you just might want to go vegetarian after your first bite.

Total: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Water, as needed for kneading

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.

  2. Slowly add water, a little at a time, and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and soft.

  3. Drizzle the oil over the dough and knead again for a few minutes.

  4. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.

  5. Take each ball and roll it out into a circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.

  6. Heat a tawa or flat skillet over medium heat.

  7. Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook for about 30 seconds, until bubbles start to appear.

  8. Flip the roti and cook the other side for another 30 seconds.

  9. Remove the roti from the tawa and apply ghee or butter on top.

  10. Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.

  11. Serve hot with your favorite curry or side dish.
