Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine sliced apples, water, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.

  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes or until apples are tender.

  3. Stir in the butter until melted and well combined.

  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
