A good Cuban sandwich recipe is a favorite for many. The best part is pressing it down to get an even crust and perfectly melted cheese.
How To Make The Quintessential Cuban Sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 loaf crusty bread, like a baguette
- 4 tbsp mustard
- 2 large deli pickles, sliced thinly
- 4 slices baby Swiss cheese
- 12 slices ham, of choice
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 cups pork, cooked, shredded or sliced
Instructions
-
Slice the bread into 4 pieces and cut each piece in half horizontally without going all the way through.
-
Spread 1 tbsp of mustard on the bottom of each sandwich. Layer an equal amount of deli pickles on top of the mustard.
-
Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of the pickles. Place 3 slices of ham on top of the cheese for each sandwich.
-
Top the cheese with pork. Spread about 1 tbsp butter on the top half of the sandwich and close the sandwich up.
-
Heat a cast-iron skillet or panini press and put the sandwiches in. If using a cast-iron skillet, place the sandwiches in and use a heavy object to evenly weigh down the sandwiches.
-
After about 5 minutes, the bread should be crusty and the cheese will be melted.
-
Slice the sandwiches on a diagonal and serve with some french fries and extra mustard.
