How To Make Sloppy Jane

Enjoy a meaty and savory classic sandwich but with a lighter twist with this sloppy jane recipe. It uses ground turkey for a less heavy dish.

Prep: 15 mins
Cook: 20 mins
Total: 35 mins

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey, raw
  • 1 tsp steak seasoning blend, dry
  • tsp salt
  • ½ cup onion, chopped
  • ½ cup red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 cup tomato sauce, canned
  • ¾ cup no-salt-added tomato sauce, canned
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • tbsp granulated sugar
  • 5 hamburger buns, small (light, if available)

  1. Spray a large skillet with nonstick spray and bring it to medium-high heat on the stove. Add turkey and sprinkle with steak seasoning and salt. Cook and crumble until it's mostly cooked, about 8 minutes.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium. Add onion, bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and vinegar. Mix it well and continue to cook and crumble until the meat is fully cooked.

  3. Reduce the heat to low. Add tomato sauces, tomato paste, and sugar. Stir well. Stirring occasionally, cook until it's hot.

  4. Toast the buns, if desired. Evenly distribute the mixture among the bottom buns and then finish off with the tops of the buns. Enjoy!
