
How To Make Plum Compote with Star Anise
A European dessert, this plum compote simmers the fruit with wine, sugar, and spice, then mixes it with lemon juice for some sweet and tangy flavors.

Ingredients
- 1½cupdry white wine
- 1½cupwater
- ½cupsugar
- 8wholestar anise
- 2lbsred plums,and/or black, (about 9)
- ½tsplemon juice
Instructions

In a medium stainless-steel saucepan, combine the wine, water, sugar, and star anise and bring to a simmer over moderately high heat.

Add the plums.

Bring the poaching liquid back to a simmer and cook, partially covered, for 10 to 15 minutes until the plums are just tender.

Pour the plums and their liquid into a glass or stainless-steel bowl and let cool.

Stir in the lemon juice.
