Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  4. In a separate bowl, mix together granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the diced apples, blackberries, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly.

  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick. Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter.

  6. Place a spoonful of the apple and blackberry mixture onto the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and seal the edges using a fork.

  7. Transfer the hand pies to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
