Grandma’s Apple Pie Recipe

This is an old Pennsylvania Dutch apple pie recipe that I got from my grandmother. The apples taste perfect no matter what kind you use!


You can make this all-time favorite apple pie at home with only a few simple ingredients and easy steps to follow.

Serves:

Ingredients

Crust:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups shortening
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vinegar

Filling:

  • 6 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

For crust:

  1. Mix ingredients together until they form a softball.

  2. Cut the ball in half.

  3. Roll out on a well-floured board.

  4. Place bottom crust in a 9-inch glass pan.

For filling:

  1. Combine ingredients in a large pot and cook on medium heat until apples are tender.

  2. Stir constantly so sugar, cinnamon, and juice blend.

  3. Pour filling into crust.

  4. Top with second crust.

  5. Cut design in crust and brush with milk.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees F until golden for about 45 minutes.
