Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 25 minutes

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns

  1. Set the Instant Pot® to sauté mode and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces.

  2. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for an additional 2 minutes.

  3. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.

  4. Cancel the sauté mode and secure the lid on the Instant Pot®. Set the pressure release valve to “sealing”.

  5. Select the manual/pressure cook mode and set the timer for 5 minutes.

  6. Once the timer goes off, do a quick pressure release to release the remaining pressure.

  7. Open the lid and stir the mixture. If it’s too watery, you can switch back to sauté mode to reduce the liquid.

  8. Serve the sloppy joes on hamburger buns.
