How To Make Easy Tamale Pie Recipe

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup canned corn
  • 1 cup black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (10 oz) enchilada sauce
  • 1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch pie dish.

  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender. Drain any excess grease.

  3. Stir in the canned corn, black beans, enchilada sauce, diced green chilies, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, and baking powder. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and beaten egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  5. Pour the meat mixture into the greased pie dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Then, pour the cornbread batter over the cheese, spreading it to cover the meat mixture.

  6. Bake the tamale pie in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the cornbread is golden brown and cooked through.

  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

  8. Serve the tamale pie hot and enjoy!
