Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup Monterey jack cheese, grated
  • 4 oz pickled piquillo peppers, or any bell peppers of your choice, diced small
  • 1 tsp garlic, fresh minced
  • 2 tbsp green onions, sliced
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 16 oz wonton wrappers
  • salt and ground black pepper , to taste
  • 5 cups vegetable oil, for frying

To serve:

  • ¼ cup sour cream, per serving
  • ¼ cup tomato sauce, per serving
  • ¼ tsp cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, Monterey jack cheese, bell peppers, garlic, green onions, and chili powder and mix well.

  2. Season with salt and pepper to taste and adjust accordingly.

  3. Fill the wonton wrappers with approximately 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture.

  4. Fold wrappers into triangles then press with moistened fingers to seal or seal edges as desired.

  5. Heat up oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place 3 to 4 wontons at a time into the oil and deep fry for roughly 5 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. Drain over paper towels and repeat until all wontons are deep-fried.

  7. Garnish with cilantro and serve with tomato sauce and sour cream.
