Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Blue and yellow food coloring
  • Star-shaped sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. Divide the batter evenly into two bowls. Add blue food coloring to one bowl and yellow food coloring to the other bowl.

  7. Starting with the yellow batter, spoon small dollops onto the center of the greased cake pan. Then spoon dollops of the blue batter on top, slightly overlapping the yellow batter.

  8. Repeat layering the batter until all is used, creating a star-like pattern.

  9. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the batter to create a marbled effect.

  10. Sprinkle star-shaped sprinkles on top of the batter.

  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  12. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
